In the beginning.....

Well, it all started a couple of years ago when I impulsively bought this old 70s model Comanche trailer. It wasn't really road-worthy anymore, but I liked it, and dragged it into my backyard, just before one of the tires went flat. And there it sat.

(You can click on images to enlarge, click again to go closer....)

It seems it was last used by hunters who dragged it into the woods as a temporary camp. Of course, they tore up some of the siding and knocked out a window along the way.

But, then I got this idea, it might make a good home for some chickens. However, in order to make room for chickens, I needed to tear out the unnecessary stuff. (Like the heater, the stove, the sink, the toilet, and some cabinetry.)

After tearing out the sink, stove, and cabinetry, I was left with this wheel well, which would need to be boxed in. I seem to be making more and more work for myself.

After removing the toilet, it was clear I would need to re-build this part of the floor, since it was mostly rotting particle board. Etc. Etc.

I will now spare you all the gruesome details of debris and reconstruction. Eventually, I had something that might make a nice place for chickens.

And now, all I need is some chickens. They should be here tomorrow. But, here's a sneak peek.

  10. There are a lot of cool coops emerging, as back yard chickens become more popular. In fact, a friend in Portland has sent me several articles about backyard coops in Oregon. Thanks, Lydia.
